Short Review:
Best known for his comedic role on television’s Third Rock from the Sun, actor John Lithgow has been writing and performing children’s songs for years - and he brings his own brand of high-energy wackiness to these silly songs and swing tunes.
Long Review:

Well known for his comedic role on Third Rock from the Sun (and, of course, his brilliant turn as the voice of Lord Farquaad in Shrek), the film and television actor John Lithgow has been playing guitar and singing kid’s songs in live performance for years. On this, his first CD of children’s songs, he shows that he’s not afraid to be goofy on these silly songs and standard swing tunes of the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s – songs you could imagine being sung by the likes of Danny Kaye. Playing guitar on several of the songs, and backed up by a Swing Orchestra and a Children’s Chorus on others, Lithgow brings a contemporary air to sweet, nostalgic tunes like “A – You’re Adorable”, “Swinging on a Star” and “The Inchworm (measuring the marigolds)”. Many of the 14 tunes beg participation, like “I Had a Rooster” filled with sounds of the barnyard, and Lithgow’s own “Big Kids.” And silly wordplay abounds in “The Gnu Song”, “From the Indies to the Andes in His Undies”, and “The Hippopotamus Song.” Lithgow sometimes talk-sings, and he doesn’t always hit every note spot on – but that doesn’t matter. He succeeds in sweeping you up into the lighthearted fun, and you’ll find yourself singing along – if you can manage it through the laughter!
